On June 5th, my husband and I visited the shop and bought two types of sausages. One was Boerwors. We put both types into our freezer, and took the Boerwors out on Sunday to grill.

I was amazed at how much thick, yellow fat was at the bottom of the grill pan when Id cooked them. They had shrunk significantly, and looked greasy. And they were. Worse than that, we encountered large lumps of slimy, white fat in our first mouthfuls. We spat the sausage out. It was nasty, nasty, nasty.

We know very well what this type of sausage should be like; my husband lived in South Africa for years, and we have both eaten excellent Boerwors there and in this country. What we bought from you bore no resemblance to the firm, porky, well-seasoned farmers sausage Boerwors should be.

We lived near Bath for years and used to be regular customers at your shop. At that time, you had a good reputation for fine produce and innovation. Now, sadly, you seem to have gone the way of so many British businesses sacrificing quality to bigger profits. What a shame.

People in the UK are far more discriminating about food than they once were. If you disappoint customers, youll lose them. More crucially, youll lose your hard-won reputation, and that will be the start of the slippery slope. We will not be returning, nor will we send friends to you as weve done for a decade or more.
