What should Footballers' Wives have for Sunday lunch? The sensible ones should head for the pretty Cheshire village of Alderley Edge for a rib of 'Black Gold' Scottish beef from Alan Jackson. This is aged for 3 or even 4 weeks and looks superb dark, ruby red, it costs around £12 per kg.

The sausages are also pretty good. They make around 10 varieties and normally stock at least 5. All are made from Gloucester Old Spot (the only breed of pork sold in the shop) and cost £7.68 per kg. They make a gluten free sausage which contains potato powder. This unusual filler works well, the sausages cook with little fat loss and almost no shrinkage. Cooked they are juicy and tasty. Other good varieties are Pork & Leek, Wild Boar and Cheshire Sausage with Herbs & Garlic.
