I once broke my foot in my desperation to acquire some of Godfreys sausages. It was almost worth it. These are some of Britains finest bangers and easily outstripped competition from the Ginger Pig in the comparative tasting that I held for readers'' benefit last night. Its a scandal that they are not in this website''s top ten.

I have moved away from North London and am seriously contemplating sending a courier to pick up some of the Directors sausages from Frank Godfrey. I try independents and supermarket sausages in the vain hope that my longing will be fulfilled and I can find something to fill the void, but nothing can beat the gentle texture and the deceptively simple recipe of the peppery Directors slow-cooked in a frying pan with the merest hint of oil. Simply the Best!
