We first came across Dukeshill last Christmas when we purchased a superb ham and a selection of excellent pork products - whole rings of Midlands Black Pudding, Kassler (German cured and smoked pork loin steaks) and Pancetta.

Dukeshill are based in the Midlands (Shropshire) and have a Royal Warrant as Ham producers to the Queen. They specialise in hams (smoked, unsmoked, on the bone or boned) and pork products and also sell top quality cheese (a truckle of Mrs Appleby's Cheshire accompanied our Christmas cake), cakes, jams etc from the website and a well designed catalogue which is sent out twice a year.

Our ham was a Wiltshire cure (they also sell a York cure and a special Shropshire cure) and was the star of our Xmas food. At the time we commented on the lack of sausages.

Great minds...they have now brought out pork sausages. This is a plain pork sausage made with 80% outdoor reared pork, herbs and natural skins. Nothing flash or trendy and only one sausage variety. They have resisted the urge to bring out a whole range of different flavours and have concentrated on doing one thing very, very well.

This is super British banger, moist hot and cold with a good balance of fat and a nice herb taste. Two packs were devoured very quickly by 6 hungry adults with at least 2 report orders made already. The sausages are well made with course cut meat and packed with flavour. They cost 25 for six 400g packs and deserve 9 out of 10 in our scoring system
